Whether suppliers are FiT suppliers (Mandatory or voluntary) or not they are required to submit quarterly consumption data to allow Ofgem to assess suppliers contribution to FITs costs through the “levelisation” process. This calculates the level of quarterly payments required from suppliers to Ofgem based on data submitted.
Currently data submissions on a quarterly basis must be sent to Ofgem's Central FiT Register within around 10 working days of quarter end
Submission data should be consumption in MWh during the relevant quarterly period. Ofgem will acknowledge receipt of the information and within five working days will indicate the level of FiT levelisation payment required.
Suppliers are also required to make annual consumption data submissions to Ofgem for the period 1st April to 31st March each year. For instance the 2017-18 submission deadline is 1 August 2018. Ofgem issue an annual FIT levelisation letter (including an annual reconciliation invoice/credit note if applicable) on or around 7th September annually.
The FiT scheme was first launched by the government in 2010 and was designed to encourage the uptake of renewable and low-carbon electricity generation technologies such as solar panels.
