The Data Communications Company (DCC)is a subsidiary of Capita and has the responsibility of overseeing and managing the UK’s smart meter infrastructure and roll out.
It operates under license from Ofgem and the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and decides who builds and operates the smart meter infrastructure by awarding contracts on behalf of the state and manages those contracts.
The DCC is also responsible for linking all smart meters in homes and small businesses to energy suppliers , energy service companies and network operators.
The DCC exists according to Ofgem to ensure that the benefits of smart meters are realised and that the smart meter network works as smoothly as possible.
