Now it might sound a bit counterproductive for an energy supply company to help its customers reduce their energy bills (after all, surely the more money spent the more money going into its pocket), however, this isn’t the case.
In these unprecedented times, customers will remember how they were treated by their energy supplier. With so many people not working and facing financial hardship the need to save the pennies has increased and with more time on their hands, they’re also more likely to switch to another supplier.New research from the comparison site, Uswitch suggests that many households are likely to see their energy bills increase sharply during the lockdown.
Those households where a member is working from home is expected to use an extra 25% more electricity and 17% more gas every day. This extra usage equates to £195 being added to an annual energy bill or an extra £16 per month.
Energyhelpline meanwhile thinks bills are more likely to rise by about 30%, or £28 a month, which would be almost £340 a year.
In the current climate, the need for energy suppliers to ensure that the Priority Service Register (PSR) is accurate and up to date has never been higher.
The PSR is a free service provided by energy suppliers and network operators to customers in vulnerable situations. A customer can sign up to the register if they are:
·Of pensionable age
·Are disabled or suffer from a chronic illness
·Have a long-termed medical condition
·Have a hearing or visual impairment or additional communication needs
·Are in a vulnerable situation including customers with mental health issues that may impact their understanding of their energy bills
·Customers who are unable to top-up a prepayment meter due to injury
·Families with children 5 years old or younger.

With so many people working from home a good way to save on electricity bills and heating is to set up your workplace in a room that has plenty of natural light. With the weather beginning to improve and as temperatures rise with spring a room that allows in plenty of sunlight will also be warmer. Natural light is also beneficial for improving moods and can help boost productivity.
Cooking one big meal that will create leftovers is far more energy-efficient than cooking many meals. (It also saves on the washing up!)
When storing leftovers in the fridge ensure that they’ve cooled down enough as placing warm food inside will make it work harder and therefore use more energy to cool it down.
Leaving electronics and appliances in standby mode uses energy. Make sure you turn them off at the switch when you’re not using them.
Also, be sure to unplug devices such as laptops and smartphones that are fully charged. If they’re plugged in, they’re still using energy.
